Bring a product and practice your new found skills
Many people ask me how to take better photos, a lot of them are crafters and designers who simply don’t have the time or budget for professional photography each time they create something new, which is most days! However it is possible to capture quality imagery with a basic digital camera, some light and a bit of imagination.
The day starts with coffee in the drawing room and a quick hello and a chance to share your photography problems. We then move into the beautiful dining room for the mornings lesson on photographic theory; very cool photography school! After a relaxing candlelit lunch to rest our brains its time to play! With your camera, an item you sell or make, and an abundance of gorgeous settings and props, we photograph each attendees product, and practice the lessons from the morning.
- We look at the basic principles of light and how it is captured to form an image in camera and the variants that control it.
- We learn how to capture life and movement in an image, and create background and motion blur, both popular effects with crafters.
- We learn the controls and shortcuts on your camera to allow for quick setting changes and better results.
- Styling – we look at how we like to see products displayed and the importance of clear concise images for your buyers.
- We set up a mini stage and photograph each attendees product using natural light, and household props.

Includes a beautiful candlelit lunch
I just wanted to say thank you, the workshop was fab. I’m looking forward to having a go with my camera, re-taking all my shots and giving my shop a makeover!
Fab day Lyndsey, can’t wait to put it all into practice on my website

What a wonderful day I had in this incredible location. There was utter beauty no matter where you turned, and the professional help of Lyndsey was invaluable. I learned so much as a novice and would love to do it again and again. I feel I have invested well in the future of my company and myself by spending the day with Lyndsey James.
